I've tried that. Could not do it. All the wonderful cooking smells emanating from behind closed doors, all the visitors carrying food and gifts here and there, all the overheard talk and laughter....
Although I DID manage to get thru xmas last year by sleeping through it, but only because I stayed up all night writing.
Just trying to come up with a plan for this year... -

Re: tis the season...
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 5:16 PMHell, if no one is gonna do it for ya, do it for yourself better than anyone could have. That's what I say.
Enjoy the season eventhough you don't have a partner. You never know, it might be the best thing ever. Sometimes, hollidays can get so frustrating, expensive and stressful when you have a partner and their whole family around to celebrate with you... Enjoy your peace! LOL! -

Re: tis the season...
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 9:08 AMYou're right. I recall having miserable fights with my last partner on several Thanksgivings. The holidays can be just as disappointing when you are with other people as when you are alone. The trick is not to fall into that thinking: it's the holidays, everyone else in the world is with family and friends except me. I'm the only person in the world who is alone today. And there's something wrong with being alone on a holiday.
Maybe I'll devote the day to writing, taking photographs, or working on projects. That always makes me feel less alone. -

Re: tis the season...
Tue, November 27, 2007 - 9:14 PMAs to Holidays--I worked so many years in retail department store and the noise, impatience, accelerated pace all fed the dislike of the Holidays to begin with--never bothered to think that partnered Holidays can have their problems as well. I, likewise, seek every little project I can think of to make the day go by as fast as possible. Last year I remember even cleaning two of my chicken coops on Xmas--what a scenerio--chicken shit on Christmas! -

Re: tis the season...
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 9:20 AMmore seriously years ago i figured out how to deal with it all right after my nephew zak was old enough to move around on his own go where ever the kids are and hang out with them. they really know how to have a good time.it works when i'n sad too. hang out with kids and learn ho to play, and most of them just go to sleep off somewhere when there bored or just plain done with the scene. zaks 15 now and the dimensions of hanging out with him have changed still very cool --and i have a ton of neicelets and nephews of various ages from 15 down to six months, three births this year so i'm good for at least 15 more years and if that doesn't work i can always go out to the barn and smoke a fattie -

Re: tis the season...
Tue, October 9, 2007 - 1:40 PMI do not dread them - I hate them - but I have been alone for so long they do not even brother me anymore. I will not go out to any place where people (couples) will be eatting and enjoying themselves for sure. Nothing worse than to sit there by yourself listening to and watching a couple enjoy each others company. Even when it isn't a holiday time and I go out I find a place with a pool table and a dart board. Throw in the beer and I do not care.
